What happened here

Known as the capital of the French Resistance, Lyon hosted the leaders of the main movements. After German troops arrived in November 1942, the Gestapo under Klaus Barbie hunted them from the city; Jean Moulin was arrested at nearby Caluire on 21 June 1943 and tortured. Prisoners were held at Montluc, and on 21 October 1943 Lucie Aubrac's group freed her husband Raymond in an armed ambush.
