What really happened
Lucie and Raymond Aubrac were founders of the Libération-Sud movement in Lyon. On 21 June 1943 Raymond was arrested with Jean Moulin, de Gaulle's representative, at a secret meeting in a doctor's house in Caluire; Moulin died after torture by Klaus Barbie's Gestapo, and the question of who betrayed the meeting was never settled.
Lucie, who was pregnant, pretended to be Raymond's fiancée to gain access to German officers and on 21 October 1943 led an armed attack on a prison truck in Lyon that freed him and other prisoners. The family reached London in February 1944. The film follows her 1984 memoir; in 1997 some historians questioned parts of the couple's account, which remains debated.
