What happened here

The British island base sat astride the Axis supply routes to North Africa, and from June 1940 it endured one of the longest sieges of the war. Italian and German bombers struck its airfields, such as Luqa, and Grand Harbour almost daily. King George VI awarded the island the George Cross in April 1942, and in August the Operation Pedestal convoy, with the tanker Ohio, narrowly saved it from starvation.

      With famine close, the island watches the battered survivors of a relief convoy, among them the tanker Ohio, limp into harbour.

      In the underground operations room, Maria follows by radio as Peter hunts for an Axis convoy bound for Libya.
