Das Boot
Here in the story
At sea
Ordered into the Mediterranean, the boat tries to slip past British warships through the narrow strait.
The narrow strait between Spain and Morocco was guarded by the British fortress of Gibraltar, base of Force H and of constant anti-submarine patrols. From September 1941 Germany sent U-boats through it to support Italy in the Mediterranean, using the inflowing current to slip past submerged. About 60 boats made the passage, several were sunk or damaged in the attempt, and none ever returned to the Atlantic.
