What happened here
Bremen's shipyards, including AG Weser and Bremer Vulkan, built U-boats, and its aircraft plants supplied the Luftwaffe, so the city was bombed throughout the war. It became a frequent and costly target for the US Eighth Air Force in 1943: the 100th Bomb Group flew its first mission against the Bremen U-boat yards on 25 June 1943, and returned in October under fierce flak and fighter attacks.
