    Key location

After taking the town of Kirchohsen, Fury's platoon is sent to hold a vital crossroads, and the tank ends up facing an SS battalion alone.

What really happened

By April 1945 the Western Allies had crossed the Rhine and American armored divisions, among them the 2nd Armored Division, were racing across northern Germany toward the Elbe. The Wehrmacht was collapsing, but scattered SS units, Volkssturm militia and Hitler Youth armed with Panzerfausts still fought ferociously, and many villages hung white flags while others were defended to the last.

The M4 Sherman was outgunned by German heavy tanks, and crews suffered heavy losses throughout the campaign. Fury's crew and its last stand at a crossroads are fictional, drawn from veterans' accounts. The Tiger I in the film is Tiger 131 from the Tank Museum in Bovington, the only running Tiger I in the world.
